Nilsson Named Cowgirl Golf Assistant

STILLWATER, Okla. - Pär Nilsson, a two-time All-American for the Cowboy golf team, has been named assistant coach for the Oklahoma State women's program it was announced today by head coach Courtney Jones.
"I am thrilled to have Pär return to Stillwater as the assistant coach for the Cowgirl golf program. He has a great vision for where we can take the program and brings valuable experience to the table," Jones said.
"He has competed all over the world in both professional and amateur golf. From representing Sweden at the World Amateur to his time as a former All-American at Oklahoma State, he knows what it takes to be successful. This playing experience in combination with his work ethic, passion for developing players and coaching background make him a perfect fit for our program."
Nilsson joins the Cowgirl program after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach for the men's squad at the University of Denver. During his first season with the program, he helped guide the Pioneers to the Sun Belt Conference title.
A native of Ljungsbro, Sweden, Nilsson competed for the Cowboys from 2000-04, earning honorable mention All-America status in 2001 and 2002. A three-time All-Big 12 pick, he was also named an academic all-league selection on two occasions.
"It is an honor to come back to coach at Oklahoma State. I am looking forward to working with Courtney and a very talented Cowgirl team. I see great potential for this season, and I am very excited to be a part of it. Throughout my career, I have learned from some great coaches, and I am eager to pass that knowledge on to these players," Nilsson said.
As a freshman, Nilsson posted a runner-up finish at the 2001 Big 12 Championship, which was one of three top 10s during his first season. Nilsson's sophomore campaign resulted in three more top 10s, including a tie for eighth place at the 2002 NCAA Championship.
On the amateur circuit, Nilsson twice represented Sweden at the World Amateur Team Championship, competing in 2000 and 2002. He was also a member of the victorious European squad at the 2003 Palmer Cup. Nilsson made four starts as an amateur on the European Tour as well.
Nilsson competed professionally across the globe from 2005-09 before beginning his coaching career with the Pioneers in 2010.
Nilsson received a degree in marketing from OSU in 2004. He and his wife, Erica, have one son, Axel.
