Cowgirls Set For Regional Play

Cowgirls To Play In East Regional For Second Year In A Row
Oklahoma State's women's golf team will take part in the NCAA East Regional at Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala., May 9-11. The 54-hole event will consist of 18 holes each day beginning with Thursday's first round and concluding on Saturday. The sixth-seeded Cowgirls will be grouped with No. 4 seed North Carolina and fifth-seeded Virginia during the first and second rounds. The trio will begin on the No. 10 tee at 8:36 a.m.(CST) at the par-72, 6,259-yard layout. Friday's second round is scheduled to get underway for those same three teams at 12:56 p.m. on the first tee. The field will be regrouped for Saturday's final round. OSU's lineup will consist of senior Kelsey Vines, juniors Lauren Falley, Josephine Janson and Jayde Panos as well as freshman Julie Yang.
OSU In NCAA Regional Play
The Cowgirls are competing in their 21st consecutive NCAA regional, and have advanced to the NCAA Championships 10 of the last 12 years through regional play. The Cowgirls have finished in the top five in six of their last eight regional appearances and nine of their last 12. OSU claimed its first-ever regional title in 2007 at the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club in St. George, Utah. This season marks OSU's third appearance in the East Regional. OSU has competed at the West Regional on 12 occasions and the Central Regional six times. OSU's previous two appearances in the East Regional came in 2004 and 2012. The Cowgirls have a pair of regional medalists in Charlotta Eliasson (1994) and Pernilla Lindberg (2007).
Regional Rewind ... 2012 East Regional
The Cowgirls posted a 1-over 289 during the third and final round at the NCAA East Regional to finish in 11th place at the Penn State Blue Course. OSU finished at 32-over 896 and nine shots outside the cut line to advance to the NCAA Championship. South Carolina won the event with a 9-over 873 total at the par-72, 6,253-yard layout. OSU's Kelsey Vines fired a 69 to move from a tie for 24th into a tie for seventh place at 217. The Big 12 Player of the Year closed with a remarkable five-hole stretch that began with a hole-in-one at the 142-yard 14th. Vines then carded birdies at the 15th, 17th and 18th to tally her third round in the 60s this season. Jayde Panos posted a 75 during her third round to finish tied for 46th place at 225, while Josephine Janson posted a 1-under 71 for a 227 total to tie for 59th place. Jocelyn Alford closed out her career with her low round of the event, posting a 75 to tie for 65th place at 228. Amy Ruengmateekhun tied for 87th place at 233 after signing for a 74.

The top eight teams and two individuals not on those qualifying teams will advance to the 2013 NCAA Women's Golf Championship which will be held May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga. ... the Cowgirls have produced two regional medalists with Charlotta Eliasson winning the West Regional in 1994 and Pernilla Lindberg winning the West Regional in 2007 ... the Cowgirls will be looking to earn their first NCAA Championship berth since 2010 ... last year, Kelsey Vines advanced as an individual after tying for seventh.
