The Oklahoma State softball team fell to top-ranked Oklahoma 10-1 in five innings Friday evening here in Oklahoma City at the Don E. Porter/ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
The Cowgirls got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when with two outs, junior Tarah Ettinger hit a triple down the rightfield line, and a batter later, senior Samantha Chrisman brought her home on a base hit to right to put OSU up 1-0 early.
Oklahoma jumped ahead in the top of the third inning, scoring six runs, topped off by a grand slam by Keilani Ricketts to take a 6-1 lead. The Sooners added one more in the top of the fourth on a home run by Lauren Chamberlain. The Sooners added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning and won by a final of 10-1.
Offensively, the Cowgirls had three hits, Ettinger's triple, Chrisman's RBI single and a base hit by senior Tamara Brown in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Senior Kat Espinosa (18-17) started the game for the Cowgirls. She went four innings and gave up seven runs on four hits and struck out five. Junior Simone Freeman came in and pitched one inning, giving up three runs on three hits.
The Cowgirls (30-24, 6-10 Big 12) and the Sooners (45-4, 13-2) are back at it tomorrow when they travel to Norman, Okla., for a 12 pm contest. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net.
