Cowgirls Tied for Sixth In Dallas

DALLAS - Oklahoma State's women's golf team opened play on Friday with a 305 total at the SMU Dallas Athletic Club Invitational to stand in a tie for sixth place.
The Cowgirls finished the day knotted with SMU at 17-over par. The two squads will begin tomorrow's second round a stroke out of fifth place. Kansas State posted a 294 to lead by a stroke over the field at the par-72, 6,301-yard layout.
Oklahoma's Chirapat Jao-Javanil grabbed the individual lead, posting a 3-under 69 to stand a clear of a trio of players at 2-under 70.
Among those to finish the day at 2-under par was OSU's Julie Yang. The freshman began her round on the par-5 10th and opened with the first of four birdies on the day. After another birdie at the 14th, Yang turned at 2-under 34 and added back-to-back birdies to start her second nine. The lone blemish on Yang's card came at the closing ninth where she posted a double bogey.
Joining Yang in the top 10 was senior Kelsey Vines, who finished the day tied for seventh place after carding a 73.
Junior Jayde Panos posted an 80 to stand in a tie for 41st place, while classmate Josephine Janson came in tied for 54th place after signing for an 82.
Sophomore Courtney Ferguson's 84 tied her for 63rd place.
Junior Lauren Falley posted a 78 to stand in a tie for 31st place. She is competing individually in the event.
The Cowgirls will begin their second round tomorrow at 8 a.m. (CST) and will be grouped with Wisconsin and Oregon State.
