Haworth Leads Cowboys To Upset Victory

Oklahoma State's men's tennis team defeated No. 67 Idaho on Tuesday in a 4-3 thriller, aided by Chris Haworth's clinching three-set-tiebreak victory.
After weather constraints moved the match to Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center, the Cowboys were forced to play their third “home” match at a neutral location outside of Stillwater.
OSU (11-8) took the early doubles point behind victories at Nos. 1 and 3, with Chris Haworth and Brady Bohrnstedt providing their sixth-consecutive doubles victory.
Singles play was a constant back-and-forth battle between both squads in a match that produced five separate matches with third-set finishes. Bohrnstedt won his third-consecutive match in a straight sets victory over Ivan Krijanto, while Richard Del Nunzio rebounded from a tough three set loss on Saturday to defeat Cesar Torres.
As Idaho roared back to tie the match with wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 4, Haworth forced a comeback in the middle of a decisive third-set battle with Abid Akbar to reach a tiebreak. Haworth eventually came out on top by squeezing out a 7-5-tiebreak victory to clinch the match for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys' victory marked their first over a ranked opponent this year. The squad will look to improve that mark when they open Big 12 play at home against No. 33 TCU on Friday, followed by another home matchup with No. 17 Texas on Sunday.
