Cowgirls Swept by No. 20 Bears

WACO, Texas - The Oklahoma State softball team feel to No. 20 Baylor 5-2 this afternoon at Getterman Stadium here in Waco, Texas.
The Cowgirls (24-20, 2-7 Big 12) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Freshman Erika Campbell reached on a base hit and later freshman Shianne Hughes, who was pinch running for Campbell, scored when senior Tamara Brown singled to left field. Sophomore Gessenia DeLaCruz would later score when senior Samantha Chrisman was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded.
Baylor (33-10, 6-5) cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning with Kathy Shelton scored on a passed ball. The Bears then took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Shelton and Kaitlyn Thumann scored on a double by Holly Holl. They would score two more to take a 5-2 lead, which would be the final score.
Offensively for the Cowgirls, Brown, Campbell and freshman Tiffany Mikkelson all had hits, while Brown and Chrisman had OSU's two RBIs.
Senior Kat Espinosa went five innings, allowing four runs on six hits and struck out three. Junior Simone Freeman entered the game in the sixth inning and pitched one inning, giving up one run on two hits and striking out one.
The Cowgirls will take on top-ranked Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Don E. Porter/ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
