Cowboy Tennis Falls to No. 37 San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
Oklahoma State's No. 72 men's tennis team was defeated 4-1 on Thursday by No. 37 San Diego State in the first round of the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic at the Aztec Tennis Center.
After defeating Loyola Marymount on Tuesday, the Cowboys looked to be on the right track toward a second consecutive victory when they took the match's doubles point early on. Rifat Biktyakov and Matt Campbell won their seventh consecutive match, while Denys Pume and Richard Del Nunzio continued their undefeated season with an 8-5 win.
OSU (7-6) could not convert its doubles success throughout the match, however, as it fell victim to losses at Nos. 3, 4 and 5. Chris Haworth took #112 Thorsten Bertsch into a decisive third set, but fell short in the match's final set.
The Cowboys will move on to face the loser of Harvard and UAB tomorrow at the Aztec Tennis Center. OSU is 2-3 all-time against Harvard, while the Cowboys fell to UAB in the teams' only meeting last season.
