STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team lost 4-3 to North Texas Wednesday at the Cowgirls Softball Complex. OSU rallied in the bottom of the seventh but fell short snapping its 12-game winning streak.
The Mean Green got on board first in the top of the third inning when they scored two runs on base hits by Jordan Terry and Danielle Hoff.
The Cowgirls responded quickly when senior Tamara Brown tied the game at two on a two-run home run to left field, scoring sophomore Gessenia DeLaCruz from first.
North Texas retook the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run by Terry to left center, putting the Mean Green up 4-2.
OSU mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs, junior Tarah Ettinger doubled to right field. The next batter, senior Samantha Chrisman singled up the middle, scoring freshman Shianne Hughes who was pinch running for Ettinger. However, the Cowgirls rally would fall short and they would fall by the final score of 4-3.
Offensively, Brown was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Ettinger, Chrisman and sophomore Shelby Davis also picked up hits for the Cowgirls.
Senior starter Kat Espinosa (11-6) struck out 10 batters and only allowed two runs on four hits in her 4 1/3 innings. Reliever junior Simone Freeman (8-7) picked up the loss, allowing two runs on two hits in 2 2/3 innings. She also struck out two.
The Cowgirls hit the road this weekend when they head to Albuquerque, N.M., to take on New Mexico in a doubleheader Friday, March 22 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. CT. OSU will face Siena Saturday at 1 p.m.
