STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team fell to Houston in both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. The Cowgirls lost 4-1 and 4-3 to the Cougars.
In game one, Houston got on the board in the top of the first inning when Holly Anderson scored on a throwing error by Tamara Brown to give Houston a 1-0 lead. The Cougars then added three more runs in the top of the sixth when Kayla Holland singled in Katie St. Pierre. The next batter, Holly Anderson, hit a two run home run to give Houston a 4-0 lead.
The Cowgirls tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh when Erika Campbell scored on a single by Brown. However, that was as close as the Cowgirls would get and they would fall by the final score of 4-1.
Starter Kat Espinosa (2-4) went seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out four. Brown went 2-for-4 in the game with an RBI and Amy Graham went 2-for-2.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Cougars got on board first by scoring all four runs in the top of the third. Reina Gaber started the scoring when she hit a two-run double to right center, scoring Kendra Cullum and St. Pierre. The next batter, Haley Outon, hit a two-run home run to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead early on.
Samantha Chrisman got the Cowgirls on board in the bottom of the sixth inning when she hit a three-run home run, scoring Graham and Brown. However, the rally would fall short and OSU lost, 4-3.
Simone Freeman (5-5) started in the circle and went seven innings, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out eight. Chrisman went 1-for-3 with the three-run homer and four other Cowgirls picked up hits for the team.
The Cowgirls (7-9) will return to the Cowgirl Softball Complex Sunday afternoon when they take on No. 25 Nebraska in a doubleheader starting at noon.
