Cowgirls Prepare for North Texas

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team, riding a 12-game winning streak, returns to Stillwater this Wednesday to take on North Texas at the Cowgirl Softball Complex beginning at 6 p.m.
This is the 15th meeting with the Mean Green, with OSU leading the all-time series, 12-3. In the Lovelace Invitational in Denton earlier this season, OSU took home an 8-0 victory over UNT. OSU has won seven in a row against North Texas, dating back to 2008.
The Cowgirls are coming off a perfect weekend in Clearwater, Fla., going 5-0 at the USF Clearwater Spring Invitational. The Cowgirls defeated Rutgers, Maryland, Robert Morris and LIU Brooklyn en route to those five wins.
Offensively for the Cowgirls, senior Tamara Brown batted .467 over the weekend with seven hits, two doubles and three RBIs while compiling a .600 slugging percentage. Senior Samantha Chrisman also had a strong showing with her bat, hitting .400 with four hits, a home run, a double and five RBIs.
The Cowgirl pitching staff proved to be nearly untouchable. Senior Kat Espinosa pitched in four games, going 4-0 and did not allow an earned run in 17 innings. She allowed just one run on six hits while striking out 15. Junior Simone Freeman was just as dominant. She went 1-0 on the weekend with a save. She allowed one run on eight hits while striking out 29. Against Robert Morris, she struck out 15 batters, tying a career high.
Overall, after 30 games, Tarah Ettinger leads the Cowgirls in batting (.360), hits (32) home runs (six), slugging percentage (.596) and RBIs (22). After a strong weekend, Brown is now hitting .341 on the season with 28 hits and 10 doubles.
The pitching staff currently holds a combined 1.78 ERA in 208-1/3 total innings and have struck out 234 batters.
After the midweek tilt with North Texas, the Cowgirls head to Albuquerque, N.M., to take on New Mexico and Siena, March 22-23.
