Cowgirl Tennis Opens Play at USTA Clay Court Invite

ORLANDO, Fla. -
The Oklahoma State women's tennis team opened play at the United States Tennis Association Collegiate Clay Court Invitational in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday.
The Cowgirls began the opening day of the tournament in singles play. Oklahoma State freshman Megan McCray continued her recent hot streak by knocking off New Mexico's Lizette Blankers in the round of 32 after receiving a first round bye. The freshman has been victorious in seven of her last eight matches.
In other singles action, Cowgirl sophomore Maria Alvarez fell in the round of 64 to Raveena Kingsley, 7-5, 6-2. Freshman Carla Tur Mari also fell short in singles play on Thursday, dropping her match to Alexis Nelson, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles play, Megan McCray and Maria Alvarez teamed up against Auburn's Michala Kucharova and Ashley Kitchen, but could not pull out the win, falling 8-4. The Cowgirl tandem of Kanyapat Narattana and Carla Tur Mari received a bye in the first round of doubles and will compete in the round of 16 on Friday.
The Cowgirls will continue competition at the USTA Clay Court Invitational on Friday at noon EST.
