NORMAN, Okla. -
The Oklahoma State women's tennis team began main draw competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Championships in Norman, Okla., on Friday.
Due to inclement weather in the area, only doubles competition took place on Friday. The Cowgirl duo of Karyn Guttormsen and Maria Alvarez began the day by knocking off Maddie Schulte and Gaby Pintos of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, 8-2. Guttormsen and Alvarez followed up the victory by defeating Paulina Los and Dylan Windom of Kansas, 8-3, to advance to the tournament's round of 16 where the Cowgirl duo fell to Wichita State's Montse Blasco-Fernandez and Rebecca Pedrazzi in an 8-6 match.
After receiving a bye in the first round of the doubles draw, Oklahoma State's Kanyapat Narattana and Carla Tur Mari faced Wichita State's Abby Stevens and Julia Schiller. The Cowgirl tandem fell down 6-1 early in the match, and even after winning five straight games to even the score, the deficit proved to be too much to overcome. Narattana and Tur Mari eventually fell, 8-6.
The Cowgirls return to ITA Regional action on Saturday morning with singles play scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
