Last Time Out - Women
The Cowgirls competed at the Wildcat Invitational on Jan. 19 where they finished the day with a 2-1 dual record, defeating UMKC and Tulsa.
In the 1,000 meters, Adela Hofmannova finished in first place with a time of 2:51.11, a new personal best. That time also moved her to seventh all-time on the school's record list. Kate Kujawa (2:54.82) finished in second place.
In the 400 meters, Clara Nichols (57.66) finished in first place and Bailey Johnson (1:00.31) finished third. Nichols's time moved her into eighth place on the OSU record list.
Chase Ealey continued her dominance in the shot put, winning the event for the third time this season. Her throw of 15.80m/51-10.00 set a new personal best and moved her to second in Cowgirl history.
Last Year at the Razorback Invitational
Last year at the Razorback Invitational, the men and women combined to post seven top-five finishes. Tom Farrell's time of 7:52.38 in the invitational 3,000 meters earned him a third-place finish, a new personal best, and is the third-fastest time in OSU history.
OSU picked up a pair of runner-up performances by Neal Smith and Miller. Smith ran an 8:12.53 in the 3,000 meters, and Miller recorded a 17.75m effort in the weight throw. Botezan placed third in the invitational mile, posting a time of 4:01.05, while Shane Moskowitz placed fifth in the mile run with a time of 4:09.19.
For the Cowgirls, Kujawa placed fourth in the mile after completing the race in 4:53.95. In the 800 meter run, Hofmannova ran a 2:13.96 to place fifth.
Leading Lady
Natalja Piliusina is the nation's top runner in the women's 800 meters with a mark of 2:03.46.
Piliusina is coming off a 2012 indoor season where she captured her second-straight Big 12 conference title in the 800m and was runner up in the same event at the NCAA national meet. She also hit a new personal best in the 800 meters with a school-record 2:03.46 at the Alex Wilson Invitational.
Record Breaking
Piliusina broke the 27-year-old school record in the 1,000 meters in a dual against No. 7 Arkansas on Jan. 11.
Piliusina finished with a time of 2:46.55, breaking Veronica Haberl's record of 2:47.30 set at the 1986 NCAA National Championships.
World Ranking
Nick Miller is ranked 13th in the world in the 6kg under-20 hammer throw, according to the IAAF 2012 top list.
Miller recorded a throw of 73.76 meters in Livingston, Scotland, last June at the Hammerama meet to earn a spot among the world's best.
Miller is coming off an impressive freshman year that was highlighted by a Big 12 championship in the hammer throw. He became the first Cowboy athlete to win an outdoor conference title in the hammer throw since Wallace Thornberry in 1901. Miller also set an Oklahoma State school record when he launched a 7.26 kilogram hammer 67.56 meters/221-08 at the Hammerama meet in Scotland.
Personal Bests
During the first three meets of the 2013 indoor season, the Cowgirls have set a total of nine personal bests. During their first two meets of the season, the Cowboys have also set nine personal bests, bringing the total to a combined 18 personal bests before the end of January.
National Rankings
Piliusina remains the top-ranked female in the 800 meters, and Ealey moves down to No. 32 in the women's shot put.
For the Cowboys, Erassa (13th) and Botezan (14th) remain in the top 15 in the men's mile.
In the 3,000 meters, Farrell remains at No. 9, followed by Erassa (26th) and Shadrack Kipchirchir (29th).
Kipchirchir (eighth) and Girma Mecheso (11th) hold steady in the 5,000 meters, and Miller moves up to No. 23 in the weight throw.

From Head Coach Dave Smith
On the level of competition in this weekend's meet:
"This is our first high-level competition meet. It's a very competitive meet. We want to be competitive and win races. We want to run to win. With that will come good times and good marks. At this meet every year, there are records being set and kids making the top 10 nationally and in the Big 12. That's the kind of competition we're looking for."
On his expectations for the men's team:
"We're expecting them to go out and compete. I think Tom Farrell is going to run a very fast mile. We're excited to see what he can do in that. In the 3,000 meters, we have a really good group with Shadrack Kipchirchir, Girma Mecheso and a couple of others that can get in to the top-10 list and maybe even get themselves into the national championships list. Nick Miller could do very well in the hammer. We also have some young guys in the 800 and middle distances that we're excited about."
On his expectations for the women's team:
"Natalja Piliusina is going to run her first 800 of the year. She is starting the season off ranked No. 1. I would love to see her get a good mark out there, but it's still early in her season. Kaela Edwards is another girl who has been running really well. I think there are several that can do good things this weekend.
