STILLWATER, Okla.— The 23rd-ranked Oklahoma State softball defeated LSU 1-0 after 10 innings of play Sunday afternoon in Stillwater. Simone Freeman and Kat Espinosa combined for the shutout with Espinosa picking up the win.
In the bottom of the 10th, Chelsea Garcia and Shelby Davis led off with back-to-back hits. They advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by Tarah Ettinger. Hannah Bowen was up next and hit a ground ball to the LSU second baseman. She bobbled it, allowing Garcia to score from third and win the game.
Freeman started in the circle for the Cowgirls. She threw the first 5.1 innings, allowed four hits, struck out four and walked one. Espinosa threw the last 4.2 innings, gave up just two hits, struck out four and walked one. She improves to 4-3 this season.
OSU out-hit the Tigers 12-6. Tamara Brown reached base in four of her at-bats, including two hits, and her fifth at-bat was a sacrifice bunt that advanced the runner. Julie Ward, Tarah Ettinger and Shelby Davis each added a double.
Rachele Fico threw the entire game for the Tigers. She allowed 12 hits for no earned runs, struck out seven and walked one.
Oklahoma State will play again on Wednesday when they travel to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane at 5 p.m.
