Oklahoma State Coach Jim Littell
On the game
“Well it wasn't pretty, but we needed a win and I'm proud of our players. I thought we did a really good job defensively, coming off of a game where we gave up 80 points. We've worked on it hard and kind of changed some things that we were doing defensively. We had some blown assignments, but for the most part I thought we did a good job of guarding. We still continue to foul too much, but it's a huge win for us. Our players are still working extremely hard and competing on a daily basis and were just going to go to work and continue to try to get better each day.”
On the substitutions
“That's the way we've been all year long – about balance and about playing people. I thought Heather Howard came in and did a nice job. Didn't score, but came in and did a really nice job defensively.”
On Jordan Schultz
“She's gaining a lot of confidence each time out. I thought she played really well inn the Bedlam game as well. She was 4-for-5. I thought she had a layup one time and she was trying to back up behind the three line and hit a big basket from the corner. I thought she had a couple clutch baskets with the game on the line and I thought she did a real nice job defensively. She's the one that stretches the defense. We recruited her to shoot threes with the basketball and she spends a lot of time in the gym and it shows.”
Toni Young
On the defense
“I think it's exciting because we're a quick team and we're a defensive team. We let our offense come to us, but we try to pressure our opponents as much as we can. It's exciting.”
On her goals
“I try to set goals for myself before the game and accomplish certain things. Today, running the floor and defense were my biggest goals, because if you can't keep up then she's going to run right past you. Tiffany's a great point guard, so if you're open then she's going to get you the ball. Having her helps a lot.”
Lindsey Keller
On the defense
“I'm a defensive player. That's where I get my hype from. I'm just glad I didn't get a foul this game. That was my goal. That was my big step for me. Hopefully I can continue with that and stay solid in my defense and just take that step.”
Texas Tech Coach Kristy Curry
On her thoughts of the posts' play:
"I thought Jordan (Barncastle) and Shauntal (Nobles) really tried to spark us there with great effort on the boards and I thought (Kierra Mallard) had seven big boards, just tried to find a way to help us score a few more. Overall, I thought we tried to match their physicality. You look at two stats: we out-rebound them 45-38, which is so positive, and when you hold somebody to 53 points on their home floor, you just have to find a way to make baskets. I wasn't disappointed in the post play and the effort on the boards with 12 offensive rebounds says that we're working hard, we just couldn't score."
On offensive struggles with only Chynna Brown and Monique Smalls scoring consistently
"You got 16 and nine with a chance at two double figure scorers, and (OSU) had four. They made two more field goals than we did, and that's pretty much the difference in the game. We both didn't just tear it up at the free throw line. Your teams have strengths: (Tiffany) Bias is a penetrator and the rest of theirs are spot up shooters, and (Liz) Donohoe is mid where she can put it on the floor. You look at tendencies, I don't think it's a negative for our kids, we just couldn't make any baskets. Sometimes it goes that way. Credit their defense and credit the fact they were able to get a couple more stops."
On what makes OSU good defensively
"I think they have great presence up top with Bias. I think her and Smalls are two of the most fun young point guards to watch in the league, as far as their pressure up top. They're physical down low in (Lindsey) Keller and those guys are physical. Their physicality is what sets them apart."
Jordan Barncastle
On what the team needs to do to make a turn around
"Just improve upon the little things: free throw line, turnovers, knowing tendencies and match ups, and I just think we need to remember what we've been successful with in the past and have short term memory and keep moving forward."
On the inconsistent shooting
"Consistency is key in this league. Two possession games are what dictates the wins and losses night in and night out. We know that's the way it goes, and we just have to be ready for the next one."
