Cowgirls In Fifth In Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Oklahoma State's women's golf team got its spring slate underway on Sunday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, finishing with a 300 during its first round to stand in fifth place at Rio Mar Country Club.
The Cowgirls' 12-over score put them three shots out of fourth place, which was held by Arkansas. LSU and Georgia carded matching 294 scores to share the lead at the par-72, 6,191-yard layout.
Georgia's Emilie Burger fired the low round of the day with a 6-under 66 to stand five shots clear of the field.
OSU's Kelsey Vines was one of four players to post a 71 and share second place. After carding her lone bogey of the day at the first, Vines moved back to level par with a birdie at the sixth and made the turn at 1-under with a birdie at the ninth. The junior closed out her day with nine consecutive pars on her inward nine to get to her 1-under total.
Sophomore Josephine Janson wrapped up the day in the top 20, standing in a tie for 14th place after signing for a 74.
Junior Hillary Wood came in tied for 32nd place with a 76, while sophomore Jayde Panos' 79 tied her for 54th place.
Sophomore Amy Ruengmateekhun finished tied for 63rd after posting an 80.
The Cowgirls will begin their second round tomorrow at 8 a.m. and will be grouped with North Carolina State, TCU and Iowa State.
