Cowboys Wrap Up Tournament Play in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Oklahoma State men's tennis team wrapped up action at the ITA Central Division Regionals in Minneapolis Saturday.
After winning their opening round matches Friday, Trevor Horstmann and Rifat Biktyakov continued each of their tournament runs. Biktyakov defeated Nebraska's Dusty Boyer 6-3, 7-5 after the conclusion of a wild second set. His third round matchup came against Tulsa's Cliff Marsland, the tournament's third overall seed. After losing a heated first set, 7-6, Biktyakov came back to take the second set 6-1. However, after swapping games in the deciding set, Marsland eventually came out on top with a final score of 7-6, 1-6, 6-3.
Horstmann was also defeated by a tough opponent in Minnesota's Leandro Toledo, the tournament's fourth overall seed.
In consolation play, Chris Haworth and Richard Del Nunzio both recorded victories. Haworth dominated early and never let up in a 6-1, 6-0 win over James Thorp from South Dakota State. Del Nunzio coasted through his matchup in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Iowa's Michael Swank.
Overall, the Cowboys accumulated a 5-6 record at the tournament.
Next up, the team will head to New York for the USTA/ITA Indoor Nationals. The tournament runs November 8-11.
