Cowboys Open Play at ITA Central Division Regionals

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Oklahoma State men's tennis team began play yesterday in the ITA Central Division Regionals at the University of Minnesota.
The Cowboys started the day off in the open doubles first round with multiple early morning matches. Rifat Biktyakov and Richard Del Nunzio fell 9-7 in a close battle with Nebraska's Andre Stenger and Ford Zitsch. Trevor Horstmann and Chris Haworth were also defeated, losing 8-1 to Jean Erasmus and Robin Goodman from Drake University. The defeats ended Oklahoma State's run in the open doubles bracket.
Biktyakov continued his recent impressive play with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Wichita State's Tomislav Gregurovic. Biktyakov moves on to the second round with a matchup Saturday with Nebraska's Dusty Boyer. Horstmann also won his opening round match, defeating Nebraska's Andre Stenger 6-3, 6-3. He will face Minnesota's Leandro Toledo, the tournament's fourth overall seed.
Del Nunzio battled in one of the most heated matches of the day, eventually falling 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-5 to Wichita State's Ruillermo Nicol. Del Nunzio will face Iowa's Michael Swank in the consolation round Saturday. Haworth matched up with in-state rival Peerakit Siributwong, falling 6-4, 6-2. His consolation round match will be against South Dakota State's James Thorp.
