College Station, Texas -- Amber Garza hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, propelling the 22nd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies to a 4-2 win over the No. 16 Oklahoma State Cowgirls here Saturday afternoon.
Cowgirl starter Kat Espinosa retired the first nine Aggie batters before Natalie Villarreal led off the fourth inning with a base hit to centerfield. After two fly outs, designated player Meagan May hit her 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot over the fence in left field.
Oklahoma State responded in the top of the sixth. With one out, Alysia Hamilton recorded her second hit of the game with a single to centerfield. Two batters later, Chelsea Garcia hit her 11th homer of the season in almost the exact same spot that May hit hers, tying the game at 2-2.
Espinosa walked nine-hole hitter Brittany Walker to lead off the sixth, and senior lefthander Sarah Odom came on in relief, sitting the Aggies down in order. Odom walked May to lead off the bottom of the seventh and after a sacrifice bunt moved pinch runner Kelsea Orsak to second, Garza hit her homer over the left-centerfield fence to end the game.
Hamilton and Garcia both went 2-for-3 for the Cowgirls, compiling four of OSU's six hits. The Cowgirl pitchers gave up just three hits while walking two and striking out five.
Oklahoma State dropped to 37-13 overall, 8-6 in Big 12 Conference action, while Texas A&M improved to 38-13, 10-5 in league play. The two teams will play the series finale on Sunday at 1 pm.
