Stillwater, Okla. -- Oklahoma State's 19th-ranked softball team was shut out for just the fourth time this season, dropping Sunday's contest against eighth-ranked Texas 10-0 and the series to the Longhorns. OSU drops to 29-9 overall this season and 1-3 in Big 12 Conference action.
Texas scored three runs in the top of the first, including two off a home run by Lexy Bennett, her eighth of the season. It was all the offense the 'Horns would need, as starting pitcher Rachel Fox threw a three-hit shutout.
Down 4-1 in the third, Oklahoma State had its best scoring opportunity, loading the bases with one out. However, Alysia Hamilton's grounder to first forced an out at home, and Julie Ward's drive to left field was caught short of the warning track to end the threat.
Texas scored one more run in the fifth to make it 5-0, then exploded in the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits, including two on an RBI-single by Bennett. The Cowgirls tried to rally in the bottom of the frame with Hamilton connecting on a base hit through the right side of the infield and Ward following with a double to right center. But, a groundout by Chelsea Garcia and a fly out by Tamara Brown ending the game.
Oklahoma State will step away from conference action and host the Missouri State Bears on Tuesday, April 5, at 5 pm at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
