Stillwater, Okla. -- Chelsea Garcia went 3-for-4 with with a home run and a double, and Oklahoma State's 21st-ranked softball team defeated Missouri State 10-2 here Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. Garcia also had a single and recorded four runs batted in.
Garcia was one of three Cowgirls to record three hits in the game as Ari Morrison went 3-for-4 with three singles and Tamara Brown went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Oklahoma State pounded out 13 hits, including seven in a six-run second inning.
The Bears took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Following a base hit by Heather Duckworth, Madison Hargrove hit a double to right centerfield, scoring Duckworth. The MSU third baseman moved to third on a fly ball by Lauren Eisenreich, then scored on a passed ball.
Brown hit a double down the third-base line with one out in the bottom half of the frame, and Ashley Boyd followed with her fourth home run of the season over the right-field wall. With two outs, Amy Graham walked, and moved over to third on a bunt single by leadoff hitter Mariah Gearhart. With Gearhart stealing second, Hargrove, the Bear catcher, tried to pick off Graham, but threw the ball into left field as Graham scored the go-ahead run.
In all, Oklahoma State scored six runs on seven hits, three Missouri State errors and still left three runners on base as 12 Cowgirls stepped to the plate in the inning.
OSU added a pair of runs in the fourth on Garcia's two-run homer, and back-to-back doubles by Garcia and Brown in the bottom of the sixth ended the game in a run-rule.
Freshman Morgan Hawkins started for Oklahoma State and went three innings, scattering four hits while striking out four and improved to 6-0. Freshman Simone Freeman threw the fourth and fifth innings, striking out two while walking one, and sophomore Kat Espinosa finished the game, throwing the sixth and picking up one strikeout.
Oklahoma State (30-9) will host the Kansas Jayhawks this weekend in Big 12 Conference play. Games are scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday and 1 o'clock on Sunday.
