COLUMBIA, Mo. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team posted a 302 score on Friday during the first round of action at the Big 12 Championship to stand in a tie for ninth place at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
Inclement weather forced a three-hour delay to the start of the Championship with tee times beginning at 11 a.m. (CST) instead of the previously scheduled 8 a.m. (CST).
The Cowgirls' 14-over tally knotted them with Kansas and Colorado at the par-72, 6,234-yard layout. The trio wrapped up the day a shot behind Baylor for eighth place and eight strokes behind tournament leader Texas Tech. Tech posted a 294 to stand two shots clear of Texas in the team standings.
Five players representing five different schools all carded 1-under 71s to hold down the top spot on the individual leaderboard, while three more players finished the day just one shot back.
OSU freshman Josephine Janson carded her low round of the spring season with a 73 to come in tied for ninth place. The Halmstad, Sweden native opened with a bogey before moving back to level par with a birdie at the par-5 sixth. After a bogey at the ninth moved her back to 1-over par, Janson overcame bogeys at Nos. 13, 14 and 16 with birdies at Nos. 15, 17 and 18 for an even-par 36 on her inward nine.
Fellow freshman Jade Staggs also finished the day in the top 20, carding a 75 to tie for 18th place.
Sophomore Hillary Wood was a stroke back of Staggs, posting a 76 to finish tied for 30th.
Freshman Jayde Panos' 78 tied her for 46th place, while junior Jocelyn Alford carded a 79 to stand in a tie for 49th place.
The Cowgirls will begin their second round tomorrow at 9:50 a.m. (CST) and will be grouped with Colorado and Kansas Sate.
