Cowgirl Golf In 11th Place In The Desert

TEMPE, Ariz. - After the first day of action at the Ping/ASU Invitational, the Oklahoma State women's golf team stands in 11th place after posting a 299 team total at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
The Cowgirls opened play at the event with their 11-over score to finish the day two shots behind TCU and Washington for ninth place at the par-72, 6,230-yard layout. UCLA grabbed the first-round lead with a 12-under 276, while Southern California was second at 281.
UCLA's Tiffany Lua fired a 5-under 67 to come in two shots clear of a trio of players in the individual race.
Sophomore Hillary Wood's opening 73 was tops among the OSU contingent to stand in a tie for 24th place. Starting on the back nine, Wood birdied three of her first five holes before making the turn at 1-under 36. She headed to her final hole 2-over par for the day, but carded her fourth birdie of the day at her closing hole to move back to 1-over.
Junior Jocelyn Alford and freshman Lauren Falley came in among the group tied for 41st place after signing for 75s.
Freshman Jayde Panos finished a stroke back and tied for 55th with a 76, while classmate Josephine Janson's opening 78 tied her for 73rd place.
The Cowgirls will begin their second round tomorrow at 8:48 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with Pepperdine and Vanderbilt.
