STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team hosted its first Big 12 match of the season Friday as the Cowboys fell to No. 6 Texas A&M, 7-0, at the DeBois Tennis Complex.

“We were overpowered,” coach James Wadley said, “They have a great team and came out to play. I thought we played well at No. 2 doubles and I also thought Eric West, Ilija Martinoski and Maniel Bains all played pretty well in singles. They're just a great team.”

The Cowboys fell behind early after the Aggies's trio of ranked doubles teams swept the opening competition to earn a 1-0 lead. TAMU's Nos. 1-3 teams are ranked No. 2, 63 and 53, respectively, and won 8-3, 8-6 and 8-2.

Texas A&M continued its strong play in singles competition, as the Aggies went 6-0 to complete the 7-0 shutout over the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State's Eric West, now 5-3 this spring, took TAMU's Alexey Grigorov to a third-set super tiebreaker at No. 4 in the closest match of the day, but fell just short in a hard fought match, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9).

Other closely contested matchups included Bain's 6-3, 6-4 loss to No. 23 Austin Krajicek at No. 1 and Martinoski's 7-6(5), 6-3 loss to Alberto Bautista at No. 5.

OSU returns to action as the Cowboys face the No. 4 Texas Longhorns Sunday afternoon after the completion of the Cowgirls matchup with Texas Tech. The women's match begins at 11 a.m. Sunday. All home Cowboy and Cowgirl tennis matches are played at the DeBois Tennis Complex and admission is free.
