The game between the Cowgirls (10-2) and the Bulldogs (10-1) remained scoreless until the fifth inning. Senior Mariah Gearhart led off the inning with a hit by pitch. Ari Morrison advanced her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Senior Alysia Hamilton stepped up and hit the ball up the middle and Gearhart scored from second. It would be the only run of the game and all that OSU would need to win.
Espinosa stayed undefeated and picked up her fifth win of the season with the complete game shutout. She gave up just three hits, struck out four and walked five. Georgia's Morgan Montemayor picked up her first loss of the season and is now 5-1. She allowed four hits for one run, struck out four and walked two.
In the first game of the day the Cowgirls run-ruled UC Santa Barbara 9-1 in five innings. Hamilton hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to score Gearhart from third for the first run of the game. Chelsea Garcia hit a grand slam in the third inning and added another RBI in the fourth when she hit a single to left field and scored Tamara Brown.
Hamilton added another RBI in the fifth when she hit a single through the right side to score Amy Graham. Julie Ward followed with a single up the middle that scored two runners and ended the game.
Freshman Simone Freeman threw her fourth complete game of the season and improved to 4-2. She allowed just two hits for one earned run, struck out eight and walked two.
Oklahoma State will continue play in the Cathedral City Classic tomorrow and will face Fresno State at 5:30 CT.
