FORT WORTH, Texas-- The No. 5 Oklahoma State equestrian western team knocked off the TCU Horned Frogs, 5-3, but it wasn't enough as the Cowgirls fell in overall scores, 10-8, at October Hill Farm Saturday.
"It was definitely a better day than yesterday," coach Larry Sanchez said. "I'm very proud of the western team for beating a talented TCU squad. I'm also proud that we brought home three of the four MVPs."
Caroline Daniels led the way for the Pokes with an MVP performance, defeating her TCU counterpart 72.5-68 in reining. That highlighted a 3-0 shutout in the discipline for Oklahoma State. Rachel Houchin earned a 73-72.5 head-to-head win and Katy Krshka continued her successful freshman campaign by logging a 72-65.5 victory. Christy McElreath and Jenna Blumer both tied their competition to secure a Cowgirl shutout in the discipline.
Lindsey McMullen and Lauren Halvorson picked up victories in horsemanship as the Cowgirls dropped a 3-2 decision. McMullen rode her way to a 71.5-69.5 win while Halvorson added a slim 71.5-71 win.
Oklahoma State managed three head-to-head points in the hunt seat but fell by a 7-3 margin. Allie Rose shined in both disciplines as she went 2-0 on the day. The October Big 12 Rider of the Month rode her way to an 83-77 victory in equitation over fences worthy of MVP honors. Freshman Maggie Gampfer also won her head-to-head ride, 73-72.
Rose picked up her second win of the day with her 81-77 victory in equitation on the flat, the only point in the discipline for the Pokes. Despite falling in her head-to-head competition, 85-84, senior Jordan White received MVP honors in the discipline. Oklahoma State earned three out of the four possible MVPs on the afternoon.
The Cowgirls will be back in action when they return home to host the Kansas State Wildcats in Big 12 competition, November 19, 2011 at Animal Science Arena.
