Bondarenko Advances at Lakewood Ranch

SARASOTA, Fla. – Oklahoma State senior Vlad Bondarenko advanced to the quarterfinal round of the singles bracket at the 2011 Dick Vitale/Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic on Friday.
The senior defeated Luke Marchese of Duke, 6-3, 6-3, in the first round, and followed that up by beating Daniil Proskura of Alabama, 6-1, 6-4, in the second round. He will face Omar Aly of Miami in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
In other first round singles action, sophomore Rifat Niktyakov lost to Marcel Theimann of Ole Miss, 6-4, 6-3, but went on to defeat Phillippe Oodshurn of Virginia 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the singles consolation bracket. He will face Raphael Hemmeler of Duke on Saturday.
Senior Eric West took the first set, 6-0, against Aly of Miami, but dropped the next two, 6-1, 6-2. He was defeated by Adrian Forberg Skokeng from Ole Miss in the first round of the consolation bracket, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play, the duo of Biktyakov and West lost to Giacomo Miccini and Andre Vidaller of Arizona, 8-6.
