GOLF, Ill. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team posted a closing round of 293 to wrap up its second win of the fall season at the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday at Glen View Club.
The Cowgirls entered the final day with a six-shot cushion over Arizona at the par-72, 6,333-yard layout. With its 5-over score, OSU finished at 18-over 882, while the Wildcats made up five shots with a 288 to finish one stroke back at 883. Ohio State finished third with an 884 total.
After opening the fall season with a victory at the Dale McNamara Invitational, Tuesday's triumph gave OSU its first back-to-back victories since consecutive victories in April of 2009.
Making just her second start as a Cowgirl, Kelsey Vines posted a 71 during her final round to share medalist honors with Arizona's Isabelle Boineau. The duo finished at 2-under 214. Vines' 1-under round moved her from a tie for second into the top spot, while Boineau used a 68 during her final round to climb from a tie for eighth place into first place.
Vines, a transfer from BYU, put together a nearly flawless third round to earn her second career victory. She won the UNLV Spring Invitational while competing for the Cougars a year ago.
On Tuesday, she opened with a birdie at the first and followed with eight consecutive pars to go out with a 1-under 35 front nine. After continuing her string with five more pars to begin her inward nine, Vines carded another birdie at the par-5 15th. After posting her lone bogey of the day at the 17th, she closed with a par at the 18th to secure her first victory as a Cowgirl.
Sophomore Jayde Panos matched Vines for the squad's round of the day with a 71 of her own to move into a tie for 11th place at 221.
Sophomore transfer Amy Ruengmateekhun was impressive in her Cowgirl debut, finishing in the group at 221 as well after closing with a 78.
Senior Jocelyn Alford rebounded from an 80 during her second round with a 74 during her third round to finish at 230 and tied for 46th in a group that included teammate Lauren Falley. The sophomore closed with a 77 to get to her 14-over total.
OSU will be back in action on Oct. 14 when it begins play at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
