Cowboys Open Play at USTA/ITA Central Regional

TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team opened play at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship Saturday, advancing three singles players and two doubles teams into the main draw rounds of 16.
Christopher Haworth, Rifat Biktyakov and Vlad Bondarenko all advanced in singles play with a pair of wins in the first two rounds.
After picking up a two-set win in the first round, Haworth highlighted the day with his straight-set win over seventh-seeded Rok Bonin of Minnesota, 6-2, 6-4, in the round of 32.
Biktyakov also advanced past the first round with a straight-set win and got by Arkansas' Manfred Jeske with a tiebreaker win, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(0), to reach the round of 16.
Bondarenko advanced as he recorded a three-set first round win and knocked off Drake's James McKie, 6-2, 7-5, to move past the second round.
Biktyakov and Bondarenko also teamed in doubles play, picking up an 8-6 win over Drake's Salibasic and Ghorbel in the opening round of 32.
Maniel Bains and Eric West also recorded an 8-6 win over Drake, taking down McKie and Erasmus.
The Cowboys resume play in the event Sunday, continuing play in both the singles and doubles main draw brackets at Tulsa's Case Tennis Center.
