Freshman Haworth Upsets Top Seed in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. – Seven members of the Oklahoma State men's tennis team opened play at the OU Invitational Friday, with four advancing to the quarterfinal round of the singles bracket.
The biggest win of the day came from freshman Christopher Haworth. After dominating Oklahoma's Ryan Proctor, 6-1, 6-0, in the opening round, the Oklahoma native defeated top-seeded and 31st-ranked Chris Aumueller of Nebraska, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.
Three other Cowboys joined Haworth in advancing to Saturday's quarterfinal as Maniel Bains and Rifat Biktyakov won in straight sets and Vlad Bondarenko upset Tulsa's No. 44 Ashley Watling, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
If all of OSU's remaining players win their quarterfinal matches Saturday, the main draw singles semifinal will be all Cowboys.
Bondarenko and Biktyakov also picked up a doubles win on the day, knocking off OU's Warden and Proctor, 8-3.
The Cowboys were 6-3 in singles action Friday and 1-1 in doubles matches.
Oklahoma State resumes action at the OU Invitational Saturday in main draw singles and doubles play.
