WACO, Texas – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team wrapped up its first day of fall competition Friday, as the Cowboys competed in both singles and doubles tournament brackets at the 10th annual HEB Baylor Invitational at the Baylor Tennis Center.
The Cowboys won five of their nine singles matches and two of their three doubles contests.
In his first collegiate competition for OSU, newcomer Rifat Biktyakov did not disappoint. The Uzbekistan native dominated his two singles matches, picking up straight sets wins over New Mexico State's Matej Stakne and Air Force's Lance Wilhelm in the first two rounds of the A singles bracket.
Biktyakov also teamed with Cowboys senior Aleksey Bessonov to roll through the first two rounds of the A doubles bracket.
Junior Eric West also had a good day on the singles courts, winning two three-set matches to join Biktyakov in Saturday's round of 16.
Bessonov claimed a three-set win over Rice's Sam Garforth-Bles to open singles play, but was eliminated in two sets in the second round.
The Cowboys return to action Saturday morning for day two of the HEB Baylor Invitational.
