SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Oklahoma State rising sophomore Victoria Park posted a 2-and-1 victory over Kimberly Kim on Thursday afternoon to advance to the quarterfinal round of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at The Warren Course.
The Irvine, Calif., native never trailed in the match, using a par at the third to grab a lead she would not surrender. Park and Kim, who has twice been the Public Links runner-up, halved the next five holes before the Cowgirl standout's par at the ninth gave her a 2-up lead heading to the back nine.
At the par-5 10th, Park carded a birdie to build a 3-up lead. Kim claimed her only hole of the match at the 12th. The duo halved the next five holes to close out the match and leave Park as one of just eight players remaining in a field that started with 156 participants.
Park opened match play with a 1-up victory over Brittany Altomare on Wednesday before taking 19 holes to knock off Mercedes Germino Thursday morning to move into the round of 16.
An honorable mention All-American last season, Park advanced to the 64-player match play bracket after tying for 52nd place during stroke play with a 9-over total of 151 that included rounds of 75 and 76.
Park will seek a berth in the event's semifinal round at the par-71, 6,092-yard layout when she takes on Emily Tubert, a sophomore at Arkansas, tomorrow at 7:40 a.m. (EST).
