OSU In NCAA Competition
The Cowgirls are competing in their 10th-consecutive NCAA Championship and are making their 19th appearance overall. OSU's inaugural appearance was in the first-ever NCAA Women's Golf Championship in 1982, when the Cowgirls finished third. OSU has 11 top 10s at the tournament, and six top-five finishes. OSU's best performance at the championship came in 2004 when the Cowgirls finished as national runner-up to UCLA in Opelika, Ala. OSU has two third-place finishes, first in 1982 and then again in 1989. In 2004, Karin Sjödin had the highest NCAA Championship finish by a Cowgirl individual as she finished second. Last year in its first season under the direction of head coach Annie Young, OSU finished fourth and senior Pernilla Lindberg finished third individually.
NCAA Rewind ... 2009 NCAA Championship
The Cowgirls made a strong push during the final round at the NCAA Championship to finish in the top five at Caves Valley Golf Club. The Cowgirls posted the low round of the day with a 2-over 290 to move into sole possession of fourth place with a 47-over total of 1,199. The fourth-place finish was OSU's first top 10 in the event since finishing eighth in 2005 and was its best showing since its runner-up finish in 2004. Pernilla Lindberg made a strong charge up the leaderboard during her final round as a Cowgirl. The Bollnäs, Sweden native fired a 3-under 69 to move from a tie for eighth place into sole possession of third at 291. The finish was the first top 10 by a Cowgirl at the event since current OSU head coach Annie Young placed eighth in 2005. Lindberg's finish is the second-best by a Cowgirl overall, trailing only fellow Swede Karin Sjödin's second-place showing in 2004. Senior Karin Kinnerud saw her career draw to a close with a 75 for a 308 total, tying her for 57th place. Fellow senior Amanda Johnson carded an 80 during her fourth round to finish at 313 and tied for 82nd place.
