Cowgirls In Eighth In The Desert

TEMPE, Ariz. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team posted a 4-over 292 during its first round at the Ping/ASU Invitational on Friday to stand in a tie with Arizona for eighth place at ASU's Karsten Golf Course.
The Cowgirls, who entered play as the event's defending champion, finished the day just one shot behind a quartet of teams for fourth place at the par-72, 6,230-yard layout. Tournament host Arizona State fired a 9-under 279 and leads Southern California by two shots.
Individually, a pair of players fired 68s to lead by one as ASU's Carlota Ciganda and Tulsa's Kristina Merkle came in at 4-under par for the day.
OSU sophomore Caroline Hedwall and freshman Courtney McKim found themselves just two shots off the pace after carding 2-under 70s. The duo joined three other players at 2-under par for the day and tied for sixth.
Freshman Victoria Park was just outside the top 10, finishing the day tied for 11th with a 71.
OSU's freshmen duo of Hillary Wood and Eyglo Oskarsdottir came in tied for 83rd place with 81s.
The Cowgirls will return to the course tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with Denver and Arizona.
