TULSA, Okla. – The No. 54 Oklahoma State men's tennis team dropped to 8-11 (0-5) on the year Friday, falling to No. 16 Texas Tech, 6-1, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Cowboys fell down, 1-0, after dropping the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches, but claimed a win at the No. 1 line as 18th-ranked Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Aleksey Bessonov defeated Texas Tech's 20th-ranked duo of Raony Carvalho and Rafael Garcia, 8-7.
In singles play, senior Nedovyesov, ranked No. 14 in the nation, defeated TTU's No. 15-ranked Carvalho in straight sets to give OSU its only team point on the day and improve his No. 1 singles record to 16-3 (4-1).
Although Texas Tech claimed wins at No. 2-6 singles, it was not without a hard fought battle.
The No. 3, 4 and 5 lines all went to a third set, while Ilija Martinoski and Eric West lost third set tiebreakers at the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively.
OSU returns to action Sunday, facing Baylor at 2 p.m. at the DeBois Tennis Complex in Stillwater. It will be the last home match of 2010 and the final home match for Cowboy athletes Nedovyesov and Anton Bobytskyi. If their is inclement weather, the match will be played at the Michael D.
