STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with a 109-46 exhibition win over East Central in front of 2,007 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena on Tuesday night.
The Cowgirls dominated every facet of the game, shooting 51 percent from the floor and outrebounding the Tigers by a 58-35 count. Additionally, OSU turned 31 ECU turnovers into 28 points on the night.
The contest marked the debut of six OSU freshmen, who combined for 55 points and 26 rebounds. Pacing the group of newcomers was point guard Tiffany Bias. The Andover, Kan., native was impressive across the board, finishing with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and eight steals.
However, it was a returner that stole the show as sophomore Toni Young logged a 24-point, 18-rebound effort in 28 minutes of action. The Del City, Okla., native nearly recorded a double-double in the first half with 13 points and nine rebounds while directing OSU to a 50-25 lead at the break.
After the Tigers hit their first shot of the contest, a 3-pointer by Kelcie Munley, the Cowgirls used a 17-0 run over the next four-plus minutes to put the game away early.
All 10 Cowgirls who suited up scored with five players finishing in double figures on the night. In addition to Young and Bias, senior Lakyn Garrison drilled five 3-pointers en route to her 17 points, while freshman Kendra Suttles scored 11 points and Vicky McIntyre added 10 points in just 13 minutes.
ECU's Indhira Ramirez was the lone Tiger to reach double figures, scoring 16 points.
The win moved OSU's record in exhibition play under sixth-year head coach Kurt Budke to 10-0 and was the Cowgirls' fourth win over ECU in the last five years.
The Cowgirls will open the regular season at 1 p.m. on Saturday against Texas Southern in Stillwater.
