Stillwater, Okla. — Junior college transfer Darrell Williams scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, pacing the Oklahoma State Cowboy Basketball team to an 86-66 victory over the Oklahoma City Stars in exhibition action here Monday night.
Williams made his debut in a Cowboy uniform and was solid, dishing out five assists as well without any turnovers in 29 minutes. He started along the frontcourt with senior Marshall Moses, along with guards Keiton Page, Fred Gulley and Nick Sidorakis.
Page led all OSU scorers with 21 points, connecting on three three-pointers and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Cowboy sophomore Jarred Shaw added 14 points off the bench, connecting on 6-of-7 shots from the floor. The OSU bench scored 41 of the Cowboys' 86 points.
Oklahoma State trailed early, falling behind 10-5 at the 15-minute mark on a three-pointer by Star center Dee Proby. However, the Pokes went on a 12-0 run over the next three minutes and took a 17-10 lead. OSU never led by more than four points the remainder of the first half until Page hit a jumper with 25 seconds remaining before intermission and OSU took a 44-38 lead into the locker room.
Oklahoma State took command in the second stanza, going on a 16-4 run over a five-minute period to take a 16-point lead. The lead extended to 24 with 3:30 left in the game when a fast-break dunk by Shaw saw OSU's lead at 80-56.
Oklahoma State forced 27 OCU turnovers and recorded 16 steals in the game, including four by freshman Markel Brown. OSU also outrebounded the Stars, 37-33.
The Cowboys return to action on Friday night as they host the Campbellsville (Ky.) Tigers at 7 pm inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
