Oklahoma State Postgame Quotes
vs Campbellsville (Ky.)
Coach Travis Ford Quotes
“We were just trying to work on some things within our team, otherwise I would have never kept pressing. It just kind of snowballed. I thought we did a good job on the glass for most of the night. We got a little bit lazy at the end. Everything kind of went our way early and then it snowballed. We wanted to stick with playing guys and full-court action just to work on some things.”
“I told our guys that we took a big step forward tonight but there are many, many steps to go. But we were better tonight than in our first exhibition game. What I like is that we improved in some areas that we had concentrated on. That was good to see. In the first exhibition game it seemed like we didn't practice much and we hadn't done some things we'd been working on. Our guys learned from the first exhibition game that they can't be full of themselves and we need to show humility and hunger. I thought we passed better and defended better and did everything a little bit better. But we still have a long way to go.”
“The first game, our one-on-one defense we were a little overzealous. We were too close to our man so in practice we worked on creating space so we don't foul as much. It doesn't mean you don't play hard or aggressive but we worked on spacing our man and guarding our man a little bit better. That was the key to the game tonight. I thought we did a good job of staying out of foul trouble and keeping them in front of us most of the night.”
Senior Forward Marshall Moses
On what was different about this game than Monday night's game
"We prepared better. After that game, we were all pretty disappointed in our play, even Keiton (Page) who played pretty decent. We worked hard, practice was harder and we just made it up in our minds that tonight we were going to come out and show that we were a better team than we exhibited on Monday."
On the emphasis after Monday night's game
"It was defense. That's going to be our emphasis for our team the whole year. We gave up too many paint drives, too many post feeds and too many offensive rebounds and fouls too, which is all a result of being tired and being out of position. So, all of practice we just worked on keeping guys out of the paint and making sure we defended well and gave them one shot."
On being more aggressive after the first game
"I don't blow off good games; I made mistakes. I played terrible Monday. I let my teammates and my coach down. I'm a much better player than that and I lost sleep over it. Monday night I played, zero points and two rebounds I think it was, is not acceptable. Tonight, I wanted to at least make sure I came out with energy. It's not about scoring, it's about playing hard and making sure I do the right things for my teammates, so that was my main focus coming into the game was to make sure that, when it was time for me to sub out, that I was out of breath. I played hard and gave it my all."
Sophomore Guard/Forward Jéan-Paul Olukemi
On if he felt more relaxed in this game than the first one
"Yeah, absolutely. First game, I was just trying to get in the flow, looking for my teammates; just coming out trying to play hard and be a team player and do whatever I had to do to win. Today, I was able to find my rhythm and played throughout the offense. I was still able to find my teammates. We played really good defense today. I'll say everybody played a lot better today."
On the adjustment to playing different teams after only practicing against each other
"You really don't want to let the opposing players score on you, so that was really our mentality as a team to not let anybody score on us and be hard to score on. So with that said, easy buckets come from playing good defense."
On Jarred Shaw
"I know when I came in, he was still trying to learn the game and get stronger. As I've been here over the summer, he's really worked on his conditioning; he's really worked hard and put in the extra time and you can see it's paid off and is doing him dividends."
