Cowboys Advance at ITA Regionals

NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team opened play at the 2010 USTA/ITA Regional Championships Friday, as three Cowboy singles players and a doubles team advanced to tomorrow's competition.
Three of the five Cowboys in the singles main draw advanced to the second round, including Eric West, Ilija Martinoski and Rifat Biktyakov. West lost his first set, 6-4, but stormed back to claim a win, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Martinoski and Biktyakov rolled to straight set wins.
In doubles competition, both Cowboy doubles teams won their first round matches, as the Martinoski, West tandem and Biktyakov, Aleksey Bessonov pair each notched wins, 8-4.
Biktyakov and Bessonov won a close match in the second round over DU's Erasmus and Goodman, 9-7, but Martinoski and West were eliminated by OU's Warden and Formentera, 8-3.
Oklahoma State continues play in the 2010 USTA/ITA Regional Championships Saturday, as the second day of competition in the main draw singles and doubles brackets gets underway.
