Cowgirl Golf In Fifth In Tulsa

OWASSO, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team opened play on Monday at the Dale McNamara Invitational with a 301 at the Patriot Golf Club to stand in a three-way tie for fifth place.
The Cowgirls' 13-over total knotted them with Arkansas-Little Rock and Long Beach State at the par-72, 6,450-yard layout. UNLV and Oklahoma shared the first-round lead after each squad posted a 292. Middle Tennessee finished the one shot back and alone in third at 293.
OU's Ellen Mueller opened with a 67 to grab the individual lead.
Sophomore Victoria Park carded an opening 1-under 71 to stand in fifth place. Fresh off her first career victory at last week's Johnie Imes Invitational, Park made her lone birdie on the outward nine at the fourth and turned at 1-over 37 after carding a double bogey at the ninth. The Irvine, Calif., native moved back to even with a birdie at the 10th before posting a bogey at the 12th to drop back to 1-over. Park closed with an eagle-birdie-bogey stretch over her final three holes to get to her 1-under total.
Freshman Josephine Janson posted a 74 to come in tied for 16th place. Janson went out with a 2-over 38 on her front side before playing her final nine holes even par with birdies at Nos. 11 and 15.
Sophomore Hillary Wood posted a 76 and finished tied for 28th place. After making the turn at 4-over par, Wood countered a triple bogey at the 12th with birdies at Nos. 10, 16 and 18 to come in with an even-par 36 on her inward nine.
Freshman Jade Staggs posted an 80 during her first-ever round as a Cowgirl to finish the day tied for 62nd, while junior Jocelyn Alford opened with an 81 and is tied for 68th place.
Sophomore Eyglo Oskarsdottir made the trip to compete individually and posted an 87 to stand alone in 85th place.
OSU will begin its second round tomorrow morning at 8:40 a.m. and will be grouped with Tulsa and Texas.
