James Anderson, a guard on the Oklahoma State Basketball team, has been named a candidate on the 2009-10 John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top-30 list, it was announced today by the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
Anderson, a 6-6 junior from Junction City, Ark., is one of five players listed from the Big 12 Conference. Joining Anderson from the league are Kansas' Cole Aldrich, Sherron Collins and Xavier Henry, along with Damion James of Texas.
A preseason All-Big 12 First Team selection, Anderson was inexplicably left off the preseason Wooden Award list. He's one of 10 players added to the group midway through the season.
Anderson leads the Big 12 Conference and ranks 15th nationally in scoring, averaging 21.2 points per game. He also ranks 15th in the league in rebounding at 5.9 boards per contest. He ranks among the Big 12's top 10 in free-throw percentage (fifth at 81.6 percent), three-point field-goals made (ninth at 1.9 threes per game), and minutes played (fifth at 33.2 mpg).
Anderson has led the Cowboys to an 11-2 mark so far this season. Oklahoma State hosts Coppin State Tuesday night at 7 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
