Cowgirls Grab Lead At Golfweek Conference Challenge

PRIMM, Nev. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team started its fall season with a 7-over 295 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Sunday to stand in first place at Primm Valley Golf Club's Desert Course.
The Cowgirls finished the day one shot ahead of Chattanooga and three strokes clear of Ohio State and Pepperdine at the par-72, 6,135-yard layout.
Sophomore Caroline Hedwall, the only player in the OSU lineup with any previous college experience, stands atop the individual leaderboard after blistering the Desert Course with six birdies en route to a 68.
Beginning on the back nine, Hedwall opened with four consecutive pars before making her first birdie at the par-4 14th. After two more pars, she closed her outward nine with back-to-back birdies to turn at 3-under 33. Hedwall dropped back to 1-under par for the day with bogeys at Nos. 3 and 4 before closing with birdies at Nos. 7, 8 and 9 to get in with her 4-under total.
She will begin her second round three shots clear of Pepperdine's Taylore Karle and Chattanooga's Christine Wolf.
One of four freshmen in the lineup, Jane Rah finished the day tied for 11th place after carding a 74 that included a pair of birdies.
Courtney McKim signed for a 76 and is tied for 22nd place, while Victoria Park came in one stroke back with a 77 and tied for 34th place.
Hillary Wood wrapped up her round tied for 84th with an 85.
The Cowgirls will begin their second round at 9:40 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with Chattanooga and Ohio State.
