Oleksandr Nedovyesov Named National Player of the Year

SKILLMAN, N.J. - Oklahoma State's Oleksandr Nedovyesov has been named the 2009 Campbell/ITA National College Player of the Year it was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
"Oleksandr is a tremendous athlete and has had the best three-year stretch ever by a player at Oklahoma State," Cowboy head coach James Wadley said. "He has been a leader ever since he stepped on campus and has been a pleasure to coach during his time in Stillwater."
Nedovyesov compiled an overall singles record of 35-7 during his junior season and finished the year with a No. 1 national ranking. This past spring, he tallied a 20-4 mark and helped OSU reach the NCAA Tournament.
The two-time All-American entered the fall season as the ITA's preseason No. 1 singles player and lived up to the billing with a runner-up finish at the D'Novo Men's All-American Championship.
He qualified for the ITA Indoor National Championship with a doubles win at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships, where he advanced to the quarterfinals.
A native of Alushta, Ukraine, Nedovyesov was selected as the 2009 ITA Men's Player to Watch for the second consecutive year and was named the Big 12 Player of the Year award for the second-straight season as well.
In his three years at OSU, he has been a unanimous All-Big 12 performer each year in singles and doubles and was named the Big 12 Freshman and Newcomer of the Year in 2007.
In 42 matches this season, Nedovyesov faced a ranked opponent in all but three matches including his last of the season versus Blake Strode of Arkansas in the NCAA Singles Championship Round of 16.
Nedovyesov also teamed with Nathan Byrnes to finish the year ranked No. 14 in the ITA national doubles rankings.
The Campbell/ITA National College Player of the Year award is given to one male and one female singles player who has had the most outstanding year in college tennis. For the first time, the collegiate players will be recognized at the 2009 International Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on July 11 in Newport, R.I. during the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, July 6-12.
