Oklahoma State's women's golf team made a strong push during the final round at the NCAA Championship on Friday to finish in the top five at Caves Valley Golf Club.
The Cowgirls posted the low round of the day with a 2-over 290 to move into sole possession of fourth place with a 47-over total of 1,199. The fourth-place finish was OSU's first top 10 in the event since finishing eighth in 2005 and was its best showing since its runner-up finish in 2004.
Arizona State claimed the team title after posting a closing 291 for a 1,182 total. UCLA finished as the event's runner-up at 1,190, while Southern California earned the No. 3 spot with a 1,191 total.
Purdue's Maria Hernandez carded a 1-under 71 to take medalist honors with a 289 total. Hernandez finished one shot clear of third-round leader Jennifer Song of USC.
OSU's Pernilla Lindberg made a strong charge up the leaderboard during her final round as a Cowgirl. The Bollnäs, Sweden native fired a 3-under 69 to move from a tie for eighth place into sole possession of third at 291.
Lindberg carded seven birdies during her round, including four on her front side that also featured a bogey and a double bogey. After turning at 1-under, she had a birdie-bogey start to her inward nine. Lindberg recorded two birdies against no bogeys over her final seven holes to post her number.
The finish was the first top 10 by a Cowgirl at the event since first-year OSU head coach Annie Young placed eighth in 2005. Lindberg's finish is the second-best by a Cowgirl overall, trailing only fellow Swede Karin Sjödin's second-place showing in 2004.
