Cowgirl Golf Travels To Lubbock To Defend Big 12 Title
Oklahoma State's women's golf team will look to defend its crown at the Big 12 Championship this weekend at The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas. The Cowgirls will be paired with Texas A&M and Iowa State for their first round on Friday. The trio will begin on the No. 10 tee at 8:50 a.m. (CST) at the par-73, 6,564-yard layout. The 54-hole event will consist of 18 holes each day beginning with Friday's first round and concluding on Sunday. Live scoring for the event will be available at golfstat.com.
OSU At The Big 12 Championship
OSU leads the league with its six Big 12 crowns. The Cowgirls first won the event in 1999 in Boulder, Colo. OSU then began its run of three consecutive championships with its victory in 2001 in Harvester, Iowa. After winning the 2002 tourney in Manhattan, Kan., the Cowgirls closed out their string with their triumph in Columbia, Mo. in 2003. OSU won the 2005 title in Austin, Texas before claiming last year's event on its home course, Karsten Creek, in Stillwater.
Cowgirls At The Big 12 Championship
OSU has been equally successful in the individual Big 12 race as it has been in the team race, having six players claim medalist honors during the history of the event. In 1999, Maria Bodén became the first Cowgirl to win the event and regained the title in 2001. Emma Zackrisson grabbed top honors in 2002, while Annie Thurman followed two years later with back-to-back victories in 2004 and 2005. Jaclyn Sweeney won the event last year to become the school's most recent champion.
Big 12 Rewind ... 2008 Big 12 Championship
Oklahoma State's women's golf team cruised to a 27-shot victory at the Big 12 Championship at Karsten Creek in Stillwater. The Cowgirls finished with a 48-over 912 team total after carding a 307 score in cold and windy conditions on the par-72, 6,210-yard layout. Texas A&M finished as the event's runner-up, coming in at 939, while Texas finished third at 958. The win gave OSU its league-leading sixth Big 12 title. The Cowgirls also won the event in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005. The winning margin was the largest in tournament history, shattering the previous best by 16 strokes. The Cowgirls also became the first team to produce a 1-2-3 finish in the individual race with Jaclyn Sweeney, Karin Kinnerud and Amanda Johnson finishing in that order.

The Cowgirls will enter the conference championship with an interesting mix of players. Three seniors with a combined eight starts in the event and two freshman who will be making their Big 12 debuts. All three Cowgirl seniors have a pair of top-10 finishes in the event to their credit. Amanda Johnson has finished in the top 10 in both of her starts, finishing eighth as a sophomore before a third-place showing last year in Stillwater. Karin Kinnerud followed up her eighth-place finish in 2007 with a runner-up last year at Karsten Creek. Pernilla Lindberg finished seventh as a freshman and fourth as a sophomore.
