OSU Picks Up Two Shutout Wins in Orlando

Orlando, Fla. (OSU Athletics ) Â— The Oklahoma State softball team shut out its opponents on Saturday, run-ruling UIC 8-0 in five innings and beating UCF 2-0 in Orlando at the Comfort Suites Invitational. Senior Breana Casaus reached base in every at-bat of the day and junior Katelyn Bright went-2-for-6 with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Alysia Hamilton had four RBIs on the day.

In their first game of the day against UIC, the Cowgirls (6-4) scored three runs in the first inning including a two-run home run by freshman Julie Ward, who now has 13 RBIs on the season. Casaus started the second inning with a bunt single and after stealing second she scored on a single to left by Bright.

Oklahoma State had another three-run inning in the third when freshman Chelsea Garcia hit an RBI-single and Hamilton hit a two-RBI-single. The eighth run came in the fifth when Casaus started off the inning with a walk and scored on a double to left field by Bright.

Junior Anna Whiddon started in the circle for OSU and pitched the first two innings giving up one hit, striking out four and walking one. Sophomore Alex Villalobos took over in the third and finished the game, allowing only two hits and picked up her first win of the season.

The Cowgirls scored their two runs against host UCF (8-7) in the third inning when Hamilton hit a single to right field that scored Casaus and Mariah Gearhart. That would be all OSU needed to defeat UCF as Sarah Odom pitched a two-hitter shutout. The sophomore struck out six and walked one as she improved to 3-1 on the season.

The Cowgirls will play their final game of the Comfort Suites Invitational tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. (CST) against UIC (2-10).
