Cowgirls Win Final Tournament Game in Orlando

After allowing three runs in the first inning, the Cowgirls (8-4) came back in the bottom of the first with Mariah Gearhart hitting a double into left field and scoring on a single by Alysia Hamilton. They scored again in the third when Megan Castle started the inning off with a walk. She scored on a double to left field by Sam Heinlein three batters later.
OSU rallied for a big inning in the bottom of the sixth. Chelsea Garcia led off the inning by reaching first on an error by the UIC shortstop and was followed with a hit by Breana Casaus. After they advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Gearhart, Garcia scored on a ground out to second by Katelyn Bright. Casaus then scored on a double down the right line by Hamilton, who now has 12 RBIs on the season.
Right-hander Anna Whiddon started in the circle for Oklahoma State and after giving up three runs off three hits in the first inning, she retired the batters in order for the next four innings. Sophomore Sarah Odom came in at the top of the sixth and retired the final six batters, striking out three of them. She got the win and is now 4-1.
Whitney Orellana started the game for UIC (2-11) and gave up three hits and one run with no outs before she was relieved by Ashley Hewett. Hewett retired the next three batters to end the inning and finished the game for the Flames. She is now 1-5 on the season.
