Riley Leads Cowgirls Past Mercer, 100-68

STILLWATER, Okla. - Behind a record-tying performance from senior Andrea Riley, Oklahoma State's women's basketball team rolled to its fourth consecutive win on Saturday with a 100-68 win over Mercer in front of 2,358 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Riley entered the contest needing 25 points to break the school's all-time scoring mark, but found her way into the record book in another category. The Dallas, Texas native finished with 17 assists to shatter the school's single-game standard and tie the Big 12 mark previously set by Texas Tech's Melinda Schmucker.
Former Cowgirl Brisa Silva held the previous school mark with 13 against Prairie View A&M in 2005, while Schmucker set the league record in 1998 against Grambling.
"I thought Andrea was tremendous. She delivered basketballs tonight to shooters where they didn't have to adjust at all," Cowgirl head coach Kurt Budke said. "What's good about what she did tonight was that her teammates delivered."
"All in all it was a solid win. I thought Mercer was a good team with a lot of threats of their own. I think they'll have a nice year."
Riley nearly had a double-double in the first half for the Cowgirls (8-2) with 14 points and nine assists before the intermission. She finished the day with 20 points and now stands at 2,164 career points, which is four shy of tying Jordan as the program's most prolific scorer.
"I wish I would have had 18. But I'm just happy that my teammates were making shots and that they continue to build their confidence," Riley said. "It was fun and it's amazing to break a record. It's hard not to think about it, but at the same time you have to continue to stay focused."
With Riley getting everybody involved, the Cowgirls reached the century mark for the first time since scoring 100 points on Jan. 6, 2009 against Centenary. As a team, OSU hit 50 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Bears (4-4) by a 54-35 count.
In the first half, eight of the Bears' 10 field goals came from 3-point range, but the Cowgirls countered by shooting a blistering 57 percent from the floor en route to a 55-31 lead at the half.
Senior Tegan Cunningham reached the 20-point mark for the second consecutive game, finishing with 20 points and seven rebounds.
A pair of newcomers set new career highs as junior Lakyn Garrison finished with 15 points and freshman Toni Young added 13. Garrison hit five of her eight attempts from beyond the 3-point line, while Young connected on five of her six shots from the floor.
Junior Precious Robinson added her second career double-double, finishing with 10 points and 14 rebounds, while freshman Lindsey Keller added 10 points.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Oral Roberts at 7 p.m.
