September 26, 2008 | Cowgirl Golf
FRANKLIN, Tenn.ÂOklahoma State's women's golf team will return to action this weekend when it competes at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship on the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course in Franklin, Tenn.
The Cowgirls enter play with a No. 6 national ranking and will be joined in the field by four of the nation's top five teams. USC, the defending national champion and No. 1-ranked squad in the country, Arizona State (No. 2), UCLA (No. 3) and Duke (No. 5) are among the 17 teams in action at the par-72, 6,217-yard layout.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes over three days with 18 holes being played Friday through Sunday. OSU will get its first round underway at 8 a.m. (CST) on Friday and will be paired with Auburn and Arizona.
UCLA claimed the 2007 team title, while Duke's Amanda Blumenherst came away with medalist honors. The Cowgirls finished fourth in the event with senior Pernilla Lindberg claiming top individual honors on the squad after tying for third.
The OSU lineup will consist of Lindberg and fellow senior Karin Kinnerud as well as freshmen Caroline Hedwall and Caroline Masson. Rounding out the starting five will be sophomore Jaclyn Sweeney, who will be making her season debut.
OSU opened its fall campaign earlier this month at the Duramed Fall Preview with a sixth-place showing. The Cowgirls did get an impressive performance from Hedwall, who won her initial college start after firing a 4-under 212 total at Caves Valley Golf Club.
