November 22, 2008 | Cowgirl Equestrian
Oklahoma State's equestrian team defeated Kansas State, 13-7, on Friday in Manhattan to end its two-show losing streak.
The fifth-ranked Cowgirls improved to 4-2, while No. 8 Kansas State fell to 2-4 on the year. The victory was OSU's first on the road this season and its second Big 12 win of the year, bringing its conference record to 2-1.
“I thought the girls rode great. It was good to have the scores reflect how the girls have been riding all semester,” OSU head coach Larry Sanchez said. “We are extremely happy to finish out the fall portion of our season with this win. Kansas State is a very good team and it was good to get this victory on the road.”
In the show's English portion, OSU captured a 6-4 victory. In equitation over fences junior, Ally Blais and sophomore Alice White captured the two victories in the discipline. The victory was White's second of the season, while Blais picked up her fifth in the category. In the ancillary portion of the event, freshmen Kaila Nix, Sarah Brown, and Jordan White all captured victories.
The Cowgirls also captured a 4-1 victory in the equitation on the flat. The event was led by a posse of seniors, Sarah Summers, Charlotte Collingsworth, and Sam Collingsworth. Along with the seniors Blais captured her second victory of the day. Summers picked up the MVP in the event giving her a 5-0 record this season. All four ancillary riders captured victories for Oklahoma State including senior Jaclyn Osterstock, sophomore Jessie Brothers, and freshmen Sarah Brown and Jordan White.
In the western events, the Cowgirls dominated by a score of 7-3. Senior Jordan Pickelman and sophomore Courtney Whitacre let the Cowgirls and stayed undefeated on the season. Along with Pickelman and Whitacre, junior Suzanne Randolph and freshman Nichole Chirico captured wins in the competition. Randolph has picked up three wins this season.
In the reining competition, the Cowgirls squeaked by with a 3-2 victory. Juniors Leah Kuehn and Molly Tipton, along with sophomore Bri Parnell all added victories on the day. Neither Parnell nor Kuehn has lost this season.
OSU will not compete again until Feb. 7 when it hosts Kansas State in Stillwater.
